Doraldine "Jerry" Trivian Meader
Jerry Meader, a long-time resident of Yakima, passed away Monday, March 23rd, 2015, at the age of 93 with her family by her side at Tekoa Care Center.
On December 29th, 1921 in McLaughlin, South Dakota, Jerry was born the second of nine children to Margaret Ann and Elmer Moses LeCompte.
Jerry often shared stories of the eight years she resided and was educated at St. Bede's Catholic Boarding School located on the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Her fondest memories being of her Holy Communion and ice skating on a frozen pond on the grounds of St. Bede's with the Nuns and her school mates.
While working as a nurse's aide at a tuberculosis sanatorium near Dunseith, North Dakota, Jerry met her soul mate and partner in life, Francis C. Meader. The couple married in 1950 and had three sons and a daughter.
The family moved to Yakima in 1953 where Francis secured employment in construction and Jerry began working at Libby's Cannery until her retirement in 1983. Francis and Jerry were no strangers to hard work. During their retirement years the couple reaped the benefits of their hard labor, enjoying weekends watching local car races at Yakima Speedway, spending winters in Mesa, Arizona, and traveling about the country in their motorhome sightseeing and visiting friends and family.
Jerry enjoyed going for walks, dancing, crafting, tending to her roses and vegetable garden and hosting family gatherings. Her potato salad was the crowd favorite at every picnic and potluck. She took great pride in keeping her home and yard immaculate.
All who knew Jerry, knew her for her generosity; for looking far younger than her years and were in awe of her ability to keep up with those half her age. She would proudly show her Betty Boop collection to all who visited her home, and for never leaving the house without wearing her signature red lipstick. She will be deeply missed.
Jerry is survived by her daughter Carole (Darrel) Armstead of Yakima, sons Frank (Peggy) Meader of Yakima, WA, and Fritz (Sis) Meader of Spokane, WA, and brother Jimmy Widner of Seattle, WA.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Francis C. Meader, son, Richard Meader, grandson Frankie Meader, her siblings Vivian Henry, Bernice Lopez, Elmer LeCompte Jr., Clovis LeCompte, and Marice Kust.
Graveside inurnment will be 1:00 pm, Monday, March 30, 2015 at West Hills Memorial Park. To share a memory of Doraldine, please visit www.keithandkeith.com.
